If you’re reading this post, it’s probably because you value your children’s heads. We first had the need to protect our kids from the hard floor beginning at 5 months when the boys could sit up…and fall over. Our boys are currently 20 months, and we still very much need to protect them from the hard floor.
We started off with a foam puzzle mat, which was short lived. After about a week, our kids realized that they could lift up the large puzzle pieces and dismantle the mat within minutes. We looked around for one piece mats that were non-toxic. You’d be surprised how many mats contain toxic materials…think about the fact that your kid is likely to have their face in this mat more often than you’d prefer. And, as much as you might not want to admit it, the odds are good that snacks will be consumed off of the mats.
The winner from our research was the Baby Care Play Mat. The mats are really big (they’re each the size of a queen mattress) and free of Phalate, BPA, Lead, Latex, Formaldehyde…
When we found the Baby Care Play Mat, we bought one. Then two. Then three. We currently have six. The material is really thick and sturdy. It has even held up to our dog’s daily tug games despite her claws digging into the mats. Also important, they’re easy to clean.
There are a bunch of different ways you can use these mats. You can lay them out in the playroom. Or, you can put up a circular gate around them to create a safe playpen. You can have snack time picnics on the mats, which is our favorite. You can put them in front of couches, cribs, or other furniture…which is particularly helpful if your little ones are daredevils. The possibilities for safety are endless. A mom’s dream come true!
