Given the likelihood of my 2 year old twins sitting still for a haircut, I figured it was worth a shot to do it myself. If the first haircut was going to be a fail, it may as well not be an expensive one.
The first thing I did was read reviews for the best scissors. In this case, I defined best as reasonably priced and available on Amazon. I read reviews from a few different places, and eventually settled on this awesome hair cutting set.
Second, I watched several videos on YouTube for how to cut toddlers hair. Having experienced my own haircuts for the last 30+ years, I felt qualified. Besides, they’re not asking me for beachy layered waves and other trendy styles.
Third, I decided to do the haircuts in the bathtub since it’s one of the very few places where they can’t run around. It also confines the mess to a much smaller area.
Last, I compiled a list of ways to get them to sit still. The first thing on the list was to let them watch Disney’s Cars movie for the 2 minutes I needed to cut their hair. Their jaws dropped and they were totally still while I chopped away. In the photo above, he’s staring right down at the phone which is playing the movie…and my husband is holding.
Much to my surprise, their hair turned out great! I’ve since cut it several times, and I’ve even picked up a few compliments on their haircuts. The real test will be if my husband Peter lets me cut his hair….Peter?
