Since we transitioned the boys to a 1 nap schedule (you can read about how we did the 2:1 transition), the routine has stayed pretty similar. The playtime activities have evolved, but our timing is the same. They’re up at 7:30am, and asleep by 7pm.
One thing that we have improved in the last few weeks is the tooth brushing routine. The boys had their first dental appointment at 18 months, so we learned some great tips from the dentist. They recommended the best kid toothbrushes, safe flouride-free kids toothpaste, and emphasized the importance of brushing the molars in the back which they’ll have until 12 years of age.
Another improvement is that bedtime story-time has become one of their favorite parts of the day. No matter how silly and wound up they are, once they get in their sleepsacks and see Brown Bear they calm down. The Eric Carle books are their current favorite at the end of the day. During the day they love the interactive books, but we try to wind them down with only one dimensional books in the evening.
At 18 months, this is the timing of our routine.
7:30am – wake up
8am – breakfast
10am – snack
12:30pm – lunch
1pm – nap
3:30pm – snack
6pm – dinner
6:30pm – bath, books, brush teeth
7pm – bedtime
